頭の中では分かっていても、それを実行していくのは難しいことです。例えば、英語に関しても、英語は言葉なんだよ、英語は試験ではないんだよ。と説明しても、英語を言葉として使う必要性もなければ、使う相手もいない日本では、「英語はことばである。」が浸透しにくいです。突然外国人が英語で話しかけてきても、無視してその場さえ逃れれば、今度そのような場面に遭遇するのは数年も先のことです。

このインターネットの発達した時代に、英語を言葉として話そうと思えば、いくらでも機会があるにも関わらず、その機会を利用しようとしないでいて、英語、英語とうるさいほどに熱心なのは一体どういう心理状態なのでしょうか。それは、「恐怖」なのです。人間はおそらくこの恐怖と一生戦っていかなければならない動物といえるでしょう。未知の状態というのは怖いものです。英語を話したことがなければ、外国の人と英語で話すことを怖いと感じるのも無理はありません。ですから、英会話学校に行ったりして勉強はしてみるのだけど、先生以外に話す人もない。そこで英語カフェに、勇気を出して出かけて行ってみる。しかし英語の経験が浅く、発音も悪いし、うまく話せないので、結局会話もろくにできないで帰るはめになる。これで意気消沈し、英語に燃えるどころか、萎えてしまってしばらくは英語の勉強も放ったらかしになる。

これでは、英語がうまくならないのもやむを得ません。英語がうまくなるには条件があります。

1. 勉強するということに、抵抗がない。勉強と聞いただけで心が重くなり、知らない間に別のことをしているとか、笑いながら楽しく勉強できる方法を一生懸命探している人。笑いながら楽しく勉強できるひとは、勉強が好きな人です。少なくとも抵抗なく学習ができて、興味を持ちながら勉強するので笑いながら楽しく勉強できるのです。

2. 勉強は自分でするもの、教えてもらうのではないということを実践できる人。これは冒頭で言ったことに当てはまることです。「勉強は自分でするもの」と言いながら、「さ、勉強するぞ」と机に向かって、「だれか、教えてくれないかな」と思う人がほとんどでしょう。自分で勉強していくにはどういう教材を手に入れて、一日に何時間くらい勉強していけばいいのでしょうか。それも、自分で勉強していく上で大切なことですが、それも自分ではわからない人も、多いのです。

3. 勉強の仕方やスケジュールはひとそれぞれですが、英語がうまくなるには、一定の黄金のルールがあります。これは人間が学習する上で、必要不可欠な条件なのです。それをこれから、お話していきたいと思います。

ようこそこのブログへ。私は、ミヤビっていいます。今は、アメリカのジョージア州に住んでいます。私は、日本人の母と、イギリス人の父との間に生まれたハーフで、生まれた時からアメリカに住んでいます。日本でハーフというと人気が高いそうですが、アメリカではマットといわれ、いわゆる犬で言えば雑種になります。でもアメリカという国はほとんどが雑種で、珍しくありません。母は私が生まれた時から数年は、日本語だけで私に話し、父は英語だけで私に話しかけたそうです。アメリカにいるので、私が英語だけしか使えなくなることを恐れた母は、自分の妹、つまり私のおばに日本から来てもらい、私が18才になるまで一緒に暮らせるようにしてくれました。母は、私が英語だけ、アメリカだけで生きる選択しかなくなることを、いやがったのです。

日本の人は、混血スキですよね。珍しいからだと思いますが、特に綺麗な子は人気です。もちろん綺麗な子は、混血でなくても人気がありますけど。私は、父にも母にもよく似ていて、写真などを見ると、写り方によっては、母にも父にもそっくりです。髪はブラウン、目もブラウンです。ルックスは普通です。身長は178センチ、体重は55キロから60キロの間をうろちょろ。まだ独身です。もちろん子供はいません。

身についた日本語を役立てようと、大学では教育学部で、英語教育法を先行して、日本語とか韓国語とかのアルタイ語を母語とする国の人々に、英語を外国語として教えることを専門に博士号を取るため、頑張って来ました。

ロードアイランド州にある語学専門校で、外国人及びネイティブ（ネイティブでも必要です。）の英語の発音を矯正する仕事をしていましたが、学校の時間がある上に、勉強の時間が足りなくなったので、仕事は1年前に止めました。そして、コロンビア大学博士課程修了後、専門の分野を実践に生かそうと、この小さな会社を作りました。

趣味は、音楽とダンスです。ピアノとバイオリン弾きます。ダンスは、バレエを子供の時に始め、今はラテンダンス（サルサ、ルンバ、チャ・チャ、サンバ、パソ・ドブレ）が好きです。

私は、言葉が好きですが、言葉は社会的動物として人間が生きていく上で、必要不可欠な道具です。武器ですが、凶器ともなる道具です。凶器となる場合は、他人だけでなく、自分をも傷つけてしまうこともあり、慎重に使うべき道具なのです。


英語は、見かけは単純な言語ですが、難易度は最高のレベル５に区分されています。一緒にしっかりと勉強していきましょう。

さて、2013年から現在に至るまで何をしていたかというと、英語の外国語教育法の博士号を取ってから、ジョージアテックで、人工知能・ロボット工学の博士号を2018年に取りました。専門は、ヒューマノイドと自然言語処理です。現在も、自然言語処理には関わっています。
